Sheriff Investigate Inmate’s Death at Pre-Trial Detention Facility

On 01/05/2019, at approximately 10:48 AM, deputies at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility discovered that 31 year old Ventura resident, Andrew Ricardez was unresponsive in his cell. Deputies immediately began to render aid and summoned jail medical staff. Ventura City Fire and American Medical Response personnel also responded to provide more advanced care. Mr. Ricardez was transported to Community Memorial Hospital for additional advanced medical care. Ultimately, Mr. Ricardez was pronounced deceased at 12:05 PM.
The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, pending autopsy results from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. As a matter of policy, the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau investigates the causes of all inmate deaths.
