Sheriff Investigates Death of Man who collapses in Field

Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release

On 12/3/2020, at approximately 4:59 PM, deputies from the Sheriff’s Gang Unit attempted to contact a felony warrant subject, 28 year old Miguel Burciaga Jr., in the 11100 block of Nardo Street in the community of Saticoy. Mr. Burciaga immediately fled on foot from the deputies. One of these deputies initially chased Mr. Burciaga but lost sight of him after he had run through the backyard of a nearby residence. While checking the area, another deputy observed Mr. Burciaga climb over a fence from a commercial business and into a drainage area east of Saticoy. Mr. Burciaga continued running east into an agricultural field while deputies visually monitored him from a distance.

During that time, Mr. Burciaga was observed falling in the agricultural field. It took deputies several minutes to gain access to the property and contact Mr. Burciaga. At that time, they discovered he was experiencing a medical emergency. Deputies initiated life-saving efforts and summoned personnel from the Ventura Fire Department and American Medical Response ambulance service. Mr. Burciaga was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, pending autopsy results from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Detective Craig Hennes at (805) 384-4722.
