Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
In the early morning hours of October 4, 2020, a Camarillo resident called 911 and told a dispatcher that he had a loaded handgun in his possession and was going to start shooting people if deputies didn’t respond right away.
Austin Manzano also said he was suicidal and wanted deputies to shoot him. Deputies arrived within minutes and were confronted by Manzano, who rushed toward one of the deputies while pointing what appeared to be a handgun. This resulted in a deputy-involved shooting. It turned out the object Manzano pointed at the deputy was a replica handgun, and he also held knife in his other hand.
In the link below, you will find a critical incident video containing the recording of Austin Manzano’s 911 call, along with the body-worn camera footage from the two deputies who were involved in the shooting.
