Simi PD recover stolen property from Trail Head Burglary

On July 4, 2017, at approximately 2:30 AM Sergeant Josh McAlister was on patrol in the area of Erringer Rd. and Royal Ave. Sergeant McAlister observed Elliot Dahl, who had an outstanding arrest warrant at the Arco gas station filling up his vehicle. SVPD officers contacted Mr. Dahl and his passenger, Laura Johnson, and later discovered she also had outstanding arrest warrants. The officers subsequently arrested both the subjects for their warrants. During further investigation, officers discovered that Ms. Johnson was in possession of numerous stolen cell phones.
The phones had been stolen the previous morning from a vehicle burglary and thefts from the Challenger Park and Wood Ranch trail heads while the victims were out running. Most of the victims were from the Royal High School Cross County Running Team practicing on the trails.
Elliot Dahl 35 years old from Simi Valley was arrested for his warrants and possession of narcotics.
Laura Johnson 34 years old from Simi Valley was arrested for her warrants and pending charges for possession of stolen property.
The Simi Valley Police Department would like to remind hikers and runners visiting our local trail heads to avoid becoming a victim.
§ Conceal your valuables in the trunk of your vehicle prior to arriving at your destination – do not do it in the parking lot or along hiking trails.
§ Always roll up all windows and lock your vehicle doors – unlocked doors are the number one way thieves get into vehicles in Simi Valley.
§ Do not leave your purse, backpack, wallet, or any other possessions unattended in your vehicle while you’re hiking.
§ Be aware of your surroundings and call SVPD (805)583-6950 and report any suspicious activity – If you see it report it!
