During a subsequent search of the vehicle officers located the aforementioned drug paraphernalia, as well as several other items including identification and credit cards, which did not belong to any of the vehicle’s occupants.
As the officers investigated further one of the involved subjects attempted to flee the scene on foot and eventually fought with an officer. This individual was detained and later found to be in possession of illegal drugs and counterfeit United States currency. He initially provided officers with a false name but was later identified as Simi Valley resident Britt Dunn (25 years). Dunn was arrested for various charges including:

496 PC – Possession of Stolen Property
529 PC – False Personation of Another
476 PC – Possession of a Fictitious Bill
11377 HS – Possession of a Controlled Substance
Dunn was booked at the Ventura County Main Jail.
These charges illustrate the correlation between illegal drug possession and property crimes. With California’s recent passage of Proposition 47, which reduced many narcotics and property crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, these types of violations and subsequent violent encounters with the Law Enforcement are likely to become more common.
