Simi Valley Crime Rate Lowest in History: Arrests Up / Crime Down

Part-I Crimes, both violent and property related, as defined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny theft, auto theft, and arson. The Simi Valley Police Department follows the national reporting standards set forth by the FBI.

While many areas in the County of Ventura showed a slight increase, Part-I Crimes decreased in Simi Valley by 4.4% in 2015, with 1,692 reported offenses, when compared to 2014, when there were 1770 reported offenses. Property Crime comprised 89.7% of the total reported Part I Crime while Violent Crime comprised the other remaining 10.3 %. This marks the lowest per capita crime rate in the history of the City.

While the City experienced a decrease in Part-I Crime, arrest rates in Simi Valley increased 11% in 2015 with 3501 arrests, up from 3154 in 2014. Among the rise in arrests was a 36.8% increase in DUI arrests with 480 in 2015, up from 351 in 2014, a 40% increase in heroin arrests, from 117 in 2014 to 180 in 2015, and a 39% increase in Methamphetamine arrests from 194 in 2014 to 298 in 2015.

During 2015, calls for service also increased by 6.8%, rising to 42,539 in 2015 from 39,818 in 2014 and traffic stops increased from 14,136 in 2014 to 16,925 in 2015.

Simi Valley Police Chief Mitch McCann stated, “These tremendous statistics demonstrate the good things that happen when you couple highly dedicated officers and staff with tremendous community support and involvement. We should all be proud of these fantastic results.”
