In an effort to reduce potential injuries and property damage, the Simi Valley Police Department asks all citizens to comply with local laws and ordinances prohibiting the possession and discharge of fireworks within the City.

Each year, the Simi Valley Police Department increases its enforcement posture during the July 4th holiday season. This has resulted in illegal fireworks being seized from numerous locations, and last year marked a noticeable decrease in fireworks violations over prior years. The base fine for a fireworks infraction starts at $100, while misdemeanor base fines start at $2,500 for each violation. Depending on prior convictions, fines for misdemeanors can reach as high as approximately $10,000.

In an effort to reduce fireworks violations on July 4th and in the days leading up to the it, the Simi Valley Police Department, with the assistance and cooperation of the Ventura County Fire Department, will be aggressively enforcing laws prohibiting the possession and discharge of fireworks.

Citizens who have knowledge of any pre-planned unlawful fireworks display may report the information to the Police Department by calling 805-583-6151. This is a recorded line only and will not be answered by a live person. Callers can anonymously leave a message or send the information via email to [email protected]. Officers will review the information and make contact with potential violators, educating them on the fire dangers and legal consequences of discharging illegal fireworks in the City. Additional steps will also be taken to monitor these areas for violations with an emphasis on prosecution. Residents who need a Police Officer to respond to in- progress fireworks violations should contact the Police Department at 805-583-6950.
