At about 2:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon a Simi Valley Police Department Patrol unit equipped with a Lo Jack stolen vehicle locator received a notification of a stolen vehicle traveling in the area of Alamo St. and Galena Ave. Several units responded to assist with an area search as a vehicle description was provided to the units.

A short time later an officer located the described vehicle occupied and stopped in the parking lot of the shopping center at 1317 Los Angeles Ave. The driver of the vehicle, Carlos Vela, 21 years old, was taken into custody without incident.

During the investigation it was determined that Vela had stolen the vehicle following a domestic violence incident which had occurred earlier in the day in Simi Valley. Vela was transported and booked for 10851 VC, Vehicle Theft and 273.5, Domestic Violence, both felonies, at the Ventura County Sheriff’s East Valley Jail.

No one was injured during the incident and details of the domestic violence victim’s injuries were not immediately available.
