Totten announced today that Superior Court Judge Gilbert Romero sentenced Brandon Michael Adams (DOB 8/9/84), mind of Simi Valley, to 11 years in state prison. The jury found Adams guilty of solicitation of murder, in violation of Penal Code section 653f(b), conspiracy to commit identity theft, in violation of Penal Code section 182(a), and four counts of transferring personal identifying information, in violation of Penal Code section 530.5(d).
In March 2014, Adams met with an individual who was acting as a confidential informant for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and solicited the informant to murder a Simi Valley resident who has a child in common with Adams’ wife. Adams also indicated he knew an individual, later identified as Vince Toncher (DOB 10/31/65), of Calabasas, who could provide personal identifying information for the purpose of committing identity theft and funding the murder. Over the course of the next three weeks, Adams and Toncher met with the confidential informant on multiple occasions where they discussed the murder and various identity theft schemes. All of these conversations were monitored and recorded by detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. Adams and Toncher were arrested on April 3, 2014.
Toncher pled guilty to solicitation of murder and three counts of transferring personal identifying information on April 10, 2015. Toncher was sentenced to nine years in state prison by Judge David Hirsch on May 21, 2015. Adams remains in custody at the Ventura County jail pending transportation to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
