Simi Valley Office of Emergency Services Reminds Simi Residents to Be Prepared for Every Season
discount arial,sans-serif;”>The official start of winter began on Monday, December 21st, the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year. This year weather experts have been telling us to gear up for record breaking rainfall in Southern California. So far, we haven’t seen the torrential rains that are predicted as a part of the climate phenomenon “El Nino,” however, the weather experts are telling us to be patient, the El Nino weather is a bit behind schedule. They say we could have a “drier” January and then the storms could begin picking up from February through May. Regardless of the timing of these storms, NOW is the time to plan and prepare.
City of Simi Valley’s Office of Emergency Services has created an “El Nino Information” page www.simivalley.org/ElNino to help Simi Valley residents prepare their property and to provide some tips about what to do “before, during and after” the storm season. Officials have also created an emergency info page www.simivalley.org/EmergencyInfo to provide residents with up to date details about: road closures, flooded intersections, detours, areas closed due to evacuation, sandbag information, etc. We encourage residents to “bookmark” these links and refer to them often.
Individual and community preparedness is everyone’s responsibility…don’t wait until it’s too late! For more information about El Nino preparedness, please visit the above webpages or contact the City of Simi Valley Office of Emergency Services at (805) 583-6950.
