Simi Valley Police Advise: Lock It Or Lose It, Sound Familiar?

The Simi Valley Police Department would like to remind the community taking preventive steps can reduce your chances of becoming a crime victim. Before leaving for a hike in the hills or the gym always remember that would-be thieves are watching to see if you are removing or hiding your valuables before leaving your vehicle. Here are some simple preventive steps that you can do to help avoid becoming a crime victim:

• Conceal your valuables in the trunk of your vehicle prior to arriving at your destination – Do not remove them in the parking lot or along hiking trails.

• Always roll up all windows and lock your vehicle doors – Unlocked doors are the number one way thieves get into vehicles in Simi Valley.

• Be aware of your surroundings and call SVPD (805)583-6950 to report any suspicious activity – If you see it report it!

• Use a strong gym lock if you are using the gym lockers – If possible, carry your ID and car keys with you while at the gym.

• Do not leave your purse, backpack, wallet or any other possessions unattended while away from your vehicle – Thieves have taken victim’s keys to make entry into vehicles to steal their valuables.
Property taken is identification, credit and debit cards. Usually the victim does not know their property has been taken, meanwhile the thieves are on a spending spree and/or purchasing of gift cards which are untraceable.
