Simi Valley Police are enforcing drivers who text and talk during Distracted Driver Month

Simi Valley Police issued 13 citations today to drivers who were texting and driving or talking on their phones in violation of state law. Although the day is not over, we thought we would notify everyone early that we are strictly enforcing cell phone laws city-wide. As a participant in Distracted Driving Month state-wide, extra Simi Valley Police Officers will be assigned specifically to enforce distracted driving laws 6 random days this month.

The Department has deployed a message trailer near the 118 Freeway and Tapo Canyon Road with the message “You Text, You Drive, You Pay” to try to remind all our drivers to leave the phone alone. In the past 2 weeks since that message board has been in place, more than 30 drivers have been stopped in the vicinity of the message board texting and driving.

Distracted, Drugged, Drunk and Drowsy are the 4 D’s we would like you to remember. They are all equally dangerous when you add a steering wheel.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Safety Administration.
