Simi Valley Police Department Fireworks Enforcement Posture To Increase

Each year, the Simi Valley Police Department increases its enforcement posture during the July 4th holiday season. This has resulted in illegal fireworks being seized from numerous locations, and we noticed an appreciable decrease in fireworks violations last year. The base fine for a fireworks infraction starts at $100, while misdemeanor base fines start at $2,500 for each violation. Depending on prior convictions, fines for misdemeanors can reach as high as approximately $10,000.

In an effort to reduce fireworks violations on July 4th and in the days leading up to the celebration of our freedom, the Simi Valley Police Department, with the assistance and cooperation of the Ventura County Fire Department, will be aggressively enforcing laws prohibiting the possession and discharge of fireworks.

Anyone who has knowledge of any pre-planned unlawful fireworks display may report the information to the Police Department by calling 805-583-6151. This is a recorded line only and will not be answered by a live person. Callers can anonymously leave a message or send the information via email to [email protected] or by using our mobile application, available free through the Apple and Adroid app stores.

Officers will be reviewing the information provided and as deemed appropriate, make contact with potential violators educating them on the fire dangers and legal consequences of discharging illegal fireworks in the City. Additional enforcement steps will also be taken to monitor these areas for violations with an emphasis on prosecution.

Residents who need a Police Officer to respond to an in progress fireworks violations should contact the Police Department at 805-583-6950. With this year’s extremely wet winter season, plant growth has been accelerated and the potential for a major fire event greater than ever. We all need to do our part to make this July 4th a safe and enjoyable holiday for everyone.
