Simi Valley Police educate youngsters on bicycle helmet safety

The Simi Valley Police Traffic Unit held a bicycle helmet safety presentation with students at Arroyo Elementary School today. Our theme was “It’s Cool To Wear A Helmet”. The students are in the last week of school and are ready to hit the streets for the summer. The Simi Valley Police Department is reminding all parents and kids under the age of 18 to wear a bicycle helmet. It’s the law and A first time fine if cited can be as much as $197.00 dollars. An expensive lesson that can easily be avoided.

A bike patrol officer showed the kids how to properly attach the helmet and several different stories were shared about real accidents involving adults and kids, and how the helmets save lives.

This summer, parents should make sure their kids are wearing an appropriately fitted helmet when bicycling, skate boarding or riding a scooter. It has saved lives in the past, and we want to do our best to encourage everyone to have fun and be safe.
