discount arial,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;”>Members of the Simi Valley Police Department Traffic Unit and patrol officers responded to a collision at First Street and Long Canyon Drive at approximately 10:40 am on 5/8/16. A Toyota Prius and a Ford F-150 truck was involved in the incident.

Upon arrival, officers immediately rendered aid to 2 motorists that were involved in a head-on collision, along with an off-duty nurse who was nearby. One 57 year-old male was transported to Los Robles Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries to his head, arm and pelvis. The other driver, a 24 year-old male was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld at this time until the Ventura County Medical Examiner can notify his family.

This investigation will take some time to determine the exact cause of the collision. It appears one of the vehicles crossed into an opposing lane, but significant work is yet to be done by the collision investigation team. So while we would like to be able to answer many questions, there are several facts yet to be determined in order to figure out why the collision occurred. Evidence obtained on scene is helpful and significant, but we would like to interview any witnesses to the collision.

Anyone who may have been a eyewitness to the collision is urged to contact Officer Corey Baker at [email protected] so he may obtain additional witness statements.

The Simi Valley Police Department wants to remind every driver to drive defensively and with caution. Treat every other driver as if were another family member and to slow down. This is the third fatality collision on the streets of Simi Valley this year.
