In a closed session tonight, the Simi Valley Council voted unanimously 5-0 to file an Amicus brief in support of Jeff Sessions US vs California lawsuit challenging California’s SB54 Sanctuary state policy.

So, Simi Valley is not actually refusing to enforce SB54 at this time, but rather is supporting litigation for California to cease and desist its violation of federal,/constitutional law in doing so and attempting to force the cities and counties to.
All public speakers on the topic were opposed to SB54 and advocated joining the federal lawsuit against California.
Several people told us that they had been pressuring the council members to act thusly. They included at least one major supporter of Mayor Huber, who is now running for Ventura County Supervisor to replace retiring Peter Foy.
Most of the female activists present to oppose SB 54 are shown in the photo above. There were other opponents present such as CD26 candidate Jeff Burum, political consultant Steve Frank, contested Sheriff candidate Bruce Boyer, activist Arthur Schaper, POV Founders Gloria Massey-Chinea, Deborah Baber-Savalla, Joan Lopez and more.
Bruce Boyer called upon the council to implement specific, tangible steps to oppose SB54. He said that this was the first city in Ventura County to oppose SB54 and that this is part of a rapidly-growing statewide trend.
LA activist Arthur Schaper, who has coordinated with Ventura County Sb54 opponents, sent us this statement, written on his phone while he was doing similar things at tonight’s Upland Council meeting:
I am beyond thrilled for the city of Simi Valley City Council and its residents. Simi Valley shows true courage in standing up to the lawless Democratic supermajority in Sacramento, and affirms their commitment to the United States Constitution. Every other municipality in the County of Ventura must stand with their sister city and urge the Board of Supervisors to opt out of the sanctuary state law. Furthermore, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean must follow the example of Orange County Sheriff Susan Hutchens and Contra Costa County Sheriff David Livingstone and release the release times and dates for every inmate being released from the jails. Let’s keep making Ventura County great again and make California great again!
Reliable sources say that the city has been researching the legalities and listening to people for weeks to get to this point.

Immigration needs to be fair! Illegals cheat by cutting the line and not going through naturalization! Get in line like everyone else who comes here legally. That is not racist or xenohobic it’s reasonable and fair for ALL immigrants. Send the alien invaders home. They will be welcome when they immigrate Lawfully. Good job Simi Valley!
Do u have any idea how long it takes to get naturalized legally? It can take up to 15 years like it did for my parents. What are they supposed to do in the mean time? All Americans are technically illegals. We’re on land that was never ours that we stole Nathan. How about we send you back to whatever European country your family came from?
I was proud to be an American and at the council meeting on Monday 4/23/2018 speaking to have our city opt out of this ridiculous ‘sanctuary’ business. I am not ignorant or xenophobic as stated earlier about us. I simply expect our citizens to be law abiding. My targets, first and foremost is to deport ILLEGAL CRIMINAL ALIENS that are arrested for CRIMES they commit in our country. I cannot believe all these nay sayers want to support criminals in any fashion. That is insane! MAGA!!
Great job, Simi Valley.
As a legal immigrant, I want to thank all people who support the law of the land and immigration law.
The support of illegal criminal aliens promotes lawlessness among people.
Thank you Simi Valley City Council! So proud of you.
You can Suuuuure tell who the libs are…..the ones that call people Names because that is what they do when they do not agree. I am from Simi Valley and T.O. and California is a Shameful embarrassing State now. Anyone who agrees with Breaking the Law deserves to be in Jail too!! We have Laws and if you do not LIKE IT< There is a Whole World out there you can Move to. How about Venezuela for starters all you who like breaking the Law
1) People who are on both side of this issue are patriots. The women in the picture are not more patriotic than those opposed to their opinions.
2) Those who oppose this decision are not lawbreakers. They believe in states rights. They have different values as a priority.
3) Undocumented immigrants are not more dangerous than citizens, in fact, statistics prove the opposite.
4) No one wants to protect felons or make our communities unsafe, we would all be better off to stop assuming that those with different opinions are wrong, or less than.
Please stop hating, blaming and assuming that our neighbors with different opinions are do not want the same positive things out of life.
Great statement, less hating and blaming and more real listening to each other would resolve a lot of today’s issues
I am so glad to see there are some people in California who follow the law and not idiots like Pelosi, Waters and Brown.(the 3 stooges).
B.T.W. WELL DONE SIMI VALLEY, Really proud of you.
Well, Alex, why not earn your “Chance”?
That means behave yourself, do the right things and DON’T BREAK THE LAW!.
If you want to come to America from elsewhere to live, OBEY THE RULES and enter through legal means.FRONT door, and meeting all requirements!.
THEN you get a chance!
SIMPLE isn’t it?
I agree with Sharon Thompson 100 percent. This ignorance shown by the city council makes me sick. No wonder Simi gets taken advantage of by big developers with these HICKS ready to throw city money down the toilet at every turn.
SB54 prohibits state and local law enforcement agencies from using state and local tax money to help the feds enforce a corrupt administration’s attempts to force California to pay for it’s hot air aggressive immigration stance that has not been sanctioned by the U.S. congress.
If you have ever wondered how the German people looked who climbed on board in support of Adolph Hitler’s rise to power in the 1930’s, just look at this picture.
(Also, when your taxes go up because Trump eliminated hundreds of thousands of dollars in property tax deductions for Californians – give them a big Thank You too.)
Are you seriously comparing the women in this picture to hitler?
No wonder Mr. Trump won the presidency! You are INSANE!
This has nothing to do with racism, it has everything to do with cooperating with Federal agents when they have someone in custody. Simple if you don’t break the law you don’t end up in jail. then the feds would not be looking at you. if you want to be in this country respect the laws. people against this law conflate it into a round up of illegal immigrants. and that is not what it is.
i cant understand how there are people for putting criminals back on the streets of Simi Valley. if you break laws you pay the price
people need to get a grip and stop making this about left or right this is about our town, our people, and having a safe community for our children.
Simple rule to live by don’t break the law don’t end up in jail no problems
I’m so happy Simi Valley is following the law. Protecting America First! Making California great again. I’m proud to be from Simi Valley! God bless America
This is shameful. I am ashamed and disgusted by this display of ignorance and xenophobia in my city. Sanctuary protects our citizens more than it endangers them. Without it, witnesses will not assist police for fear of deportation. Get it? Police need help from the community to catch the bad guys, they can’t do it alone. It doesn’t mean that we are letting the bad guys go we just aren’t punishing witnesses. Guess we will just have to show our disgust and displeasure with our votes.
It is also truly “funny” when people state that this has anything to do with the “love of God”. Do people really think God/Jesus would care about invisible borders? Do people really think that God/Jesus would want their children to suffer in a country that could not feed their children? What if it were their relatives, their children that were suffering? I guess then it would matter. Please.
Sarah,
IF you are going to bring up Christian and Jesus perhaps you should understand what is written in the Bible a bit more..
I suggest you read Romans 13:1-14
When you start throwing out unfounded accusations of xenophobia and ignorance, you are showing your true ignorance and racism towards those who don’t have your same opinions. You know nothing about the people who support the United States constitution. SB 54 is unconstitutional. And it’s ignorant for you to think you know what God thinks and to assume you know anything about each of our faiths.
First news of my morning. Thank you to the citizens who spoke up and the council members who voted in favor of putting American Citizen’s interests and public safety first. SB54 is a shell game designed to protect criminals for political gain at the expense of public safety and quality of life for taxpaying Americans. The tide is turning.
Thank you everyone who helped make this happen.
This has nothing to do with hate. It has to do with protecting our families and the law.
These women and are city are a great example of how America works. Great job to all those involved.
This is a hateful decision by a City who should instead throw racism, xenophobia and bigotry into the dustbin of history where it belongs! DESPITE THIS DESPICABLE DECISION BY SIMI VALLEY, CALIFORNIA IS NOT GOING BACK TO THE DAYS OF HATE! It will march forward with inclusion and love and progress!
NO, it is called following the law of the land..
Not our fault you don’t understand the laws in place..
Simi Valley City Council made me proud to be an American, a resident of Ventura County… and a citizen of these great United States. The City Council members looked very happy and very pleased as the unanimous vote to support the amicus brief was announced! Hear….Hear!
I was also impressed with Bruce Boyer’s next-step action request/challenge to the Council to “Not stop here!”
His concrete suggestion that Simi Valley put the sheriff’s office on notice that if they did not comply with or if they obstructed Federal laws governing immigration that Simi Valley would not pay them. Money talks… as well as citizens!
I was proud to stand alongside everyone who was there and all who weren’t but who share our love of God, Country, and the rule of law.
Yes we can. Thank you to the Patriots who attended this city council meeting tonight.
Amazing! We’re taking back California.
Hi Amy!!
Have you ever heard of the Immigration Act of 1924? Not all of the laws are fair.
We all deserve a chance just like you (: Have a nice day!!
