Simi Valley | Wanted Felon Apprehended Following Brief Pursuit

Simi Valley Police Department – Incident Press Release

On the evening of January 28, 2020, an SVPD officer observed known felon Corey Garrelts driving in the area of Fitzgerald Rd. and Hudspeth Ave. Garrelts was wanted for a felony probation violation. When the officer attempted to stop Garrelts, he fled.

A brief pursuit ensued, but was cancelled shortly thereafter after speeds through a residential area became unsafe. Garrelts’ vehicle was located, abandoned, a short time later at the Wood Ranch trail head (Wood Ranch Pkwy @ Long Canyon Rd.). A witness advised Garrelts fled into the nearby hills. A perimeter was established and a search for Garrelts commenced. A short time later, with the assistance of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department air unit, Garrelts was located in the backyard of a residence in the 500 block of Fenwick Wy., where an SVPD K9 assisted in his apprehension.

Garrelts was booked at the Ventura County Main Jail on multiple charges including a felony warrant, a misdemeanor warrant, reckless evasion, and resisting a peace officer.
