Simi Valley’s Office of Emergency Services recruiting volunteers to aid in disasters
search arial, help sans-serif;”>The City’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) manages an all-volunteer emergency response team called the “Disaster Service Worker (DSW) Team.”
The DSW Team was developed in 2003 to supplement professional responders such as firefighters, police officers and emergency medical services. Their primary mission is to assist and help “fill the gaps” during major disasters and emergencies, when our first responders are typically flooded and overwhelmed with calls for service.
The OES is looking for highly motivated, dedicated, and disciplined men and women from all walks of life that have a strong desire to volunteer and be affiliated with a local level disaster response team. Interested individuals must be 18 years or older, reside in Simi Valley, available to train monthly, and agree to be on “stand-by” 24/7 to respond when called upon.
An informational meeting will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 7 P.M. for those who are interested in learning more about the requirements needed to become a Volunteer Disaster Service Worker. The meeting will be held inside the City’s Emergency Operation Center located at the Police Department, 3901 Alamo Street, Simi Valley.
Topics to be covered at this meeting will be: the history of the program, minimum requirements, personal time commitment, training prerequisites, out-of-pocket costs, etc.
Please R.S.V.P. by sending an email with your name and telephone number to: [email protected]. For more information visit the DSW webpage at: www.simivalley.org/DSW
