Single Family Structure Fire on Katherine Dr. Ventura

On April 27th at 7:47 AM, fire units responded to a reported structure fire in a residence in the 2500 block of Katherine Ave, Ventura, CA, approaching units reported a smoke column showing and the response was upgraded. The first arriving engine companies reported a single-story single-family residence with heavy smoke showing from a window and attic vents, no confirmation that occupants were out. A water supply was established and an interior fire attack initiated. Meanwhile the arriving support company laddered the roof and began a vertical ventilation operation, utilities were secured.

Knockdown of the fire was reported within approximately 10 minutes of the first arriving unit, primary and secondary search both negative for any trapped occupants. Fire damage was limited to one bedroom with extension into the attic, smoke damage was throughout the remainder of the structure. Damage estimated at $200,000 to structure and $25,000 to contents, structure yellow-tagged by Building & Safety, Red Cross assisting a total of 13 displaced occupants.

Cause and origin remain under investigation, no injuries reported at the time of this release.
