Southeast Ventura County YMCA Branches Offer New Outdoor/Virtual Group Exercise Classes

Thousand Oaks, Calif.—The Southeast Ventura County YMCA is now offering outdoor exercise classes at its three branch locations and virtual exercise classes online.

Outdoor exercise classes include total body conditioning, group cycle, spin, Pilates/yoga, boot camp, tai chi and senior-focused exercises. Classes start as early as 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, at the Conejo Valley YMCA, Simi Valley Family YMCA and Yarrow Family YMCA. The classes are free to YMCA members and $29 per month (introductory rate) for nonmembers.

Outdoor exercise participants will be at least six feet apart. Masks must be worn during the workout for classes held at the Yarrow Family YMCA only and are only required when not working out at the Conejo Valley YMCA and Simi Valley YMCA.  Temperature checks will be conducted prior to each class. YMCA staff recently went through a weeklong trial run of the classes to make sure all safety procedures could be carried out effectively.

By signing up, participants will also have access to the Y’s live, online exercise classes. Classes are Monday through Saturday beginning at 6:00 a.m. They include Zumba, low impact workouts, core exercise, yoga, gentle yoga, Pilates, cardio and total body conditioning.

For an additional $10 more per month ($19 if purchased separately), nonmembers can sign up their kids to take part in live virtual youth enrichment programs including fitness, story time, crafting, STEAM, dance, cartooning and cheer. Classes are Monday through Friday during mornings (preschool programs), afternoons and early evenings.

“The Y is happy that we can offer our members and program members choices,” says Dani Hutchison, Director of Marketing and Events. “Some people prefer an in-person experience while others feel more comfortable working out at home. Safety is our number one concern.”
