Anglers itching to go deep sea fishing can do so out of the Channel Islands Harbor thanks to the County of Ventura’s Health Officer providing sportfishing operations the go-ahead to operate.
Dr. Robert Levin, Ventura County Public Health Officer, made a decision to allow sportfishing businesses to resume operations under pre-established safety guidelines. Operations at the Harbor’s two sportfishing operations – Channel Islands Sportfishing and Hooks Landing – can open for businesses as soon as today.
Ventura County Harbor Department Director Mark Sandoval said measures taken by the sportfishing businesses will be consistent with guidelines developed and recommended by the Sportfishing Association of California, guidelines developed to ensure the safety of customers and employees.
Measures include social distancing and reducing passenger capacity on charter vessels, wearing face masks, implementing cleaning and sanitation measures, and notifying the appropriate authorities if a crew member of passenger develops COVID symptoms, among other items.
Director Sandoval said reopening is a win-win for Harbor business owners and anglers.
“Sportfishing is an integral business component at the Harbor as it draws thousands of visitors to the Harbor every month who support other local businesses,” Director Sandoval said. “With the reopening of our sportfishing operations, we anticipate anglers will be quick to book trips and enjoy a day out on the water.”
