patient arial,sans-serif;”>Dignity Health’s St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital (SJPVH) in Camarillo and St. John’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) in Oxnard now offer an online self-scheduling service for mammogram screening appointments.
Screening appointments can be booked at a patient’s convenience by visiting dignityhealth.org/pleasantvalley or dignityhealth.org/stjohnsregional on any internet- connected computer, tablet, or smartphone. After the appointment is scheduled, the patient receives an email confirmation that includes the appointment date and time, directions to the facility, and other detailed instructions to help ensure prompt service upon arrival.
“Self-scheduling is a convenient way for women with busy lives to keep up with mammogram screenings and book an appointment at any time of day,” said Kim Spencer, Senior Director of Cardiovascular, Diagnostic Imaging and Oncology Services, at SJPVH and SJRMC.
Breast cancer is the leading cancer among women in the United States, but early detection can lead to a 98% survival rate according to the National Cancer Institute.
“Early detection is critical to winning the battle against breast cancer,” said Alicia Zaragoza, Oncology Nurse Navigator of the St. John’s Integrated Breast Center. “Generally, women lead very busy lives and are often taking care of others, which is why we are committed to providing women in our community with convenient access to the screening tools needed to stay healthy.”
Online appointment scheduling for mammography is a new addition to the self- scheduling service already available for SJPVH and SJRMC’s Emergency Rooms which provides users with an estimated treatment time, enabling them to wait from the comfort of home.
Referrals are not required for screening mammograms at SJPVH or SJRMC, and patients from all community physicians are welcome. Most major insurances are accepted.
Physicians at SJPVH and SJRMC encourage annual mammograms for women who are 40 to 49 years old; while women aged 50 to 74 may be screened every other year with regular well-woman exams.
Women under the age of 40 with a family history of breast cancer or who are considered high risk should consult their doctor about scheduling a mammogram.
