St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital Launches First Electrophysiology Program in Camarillo

St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital (SJPVH), a Dignity Health hospital, is proud to announce that the highly skilled cardiac team recently completed its first successful electrophysiology (EP) procedure. The EP Program is the first- of-its-kind in the Camarillo area, giving patients access to the highest level of cardiac services with the newest, leading-edge technology for heart rhythm disorders.

“The new EP Program at St. John’s enables us to diagnose and treat abnormal heart rhythm disturbances so that our patients can return to a healthy and active life,” said Ali Sovari, MD, Medical Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology Services at St. John’s Hospitals. “With this capability, we can provide immediate and critical cardiac care for rhythm disorders using the latest technology and mitigating the need for our patients to travel to receive such treatment.”

EP is the science of diagnosing and treating the electrical activities of the heart, or heart rhythm disorders. Physicians specializing in EP treat irregular heartbeats that are the result of abnormal electrical impulses that cause the heart to beat too quickly, slowly or irregularly. Cardiac EP services have been incorporated into SJPVH cardiac catheterization lab, which has been equipped with world class technology and leading-edge cardiac rhythm management capabilities. With the addition of EP, health care staff and physicians will be able to diagnose and care for ailments such as atrial fibrillation, the most common type of heart arrhythmia.

“The addition of electrophysiology to the SJPVH’s cardiac program reinforces our commitment to bringing advanced services and programs to the area,” said Darren W. Lee, President and CEO of St. John’s Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital. “Many of our local residents suffer from heart rhythm abnormalities. With the addition of this new service, we are proud to offer the full spectrum of care – from prevention to procedures – to our cardiac patients.”

Electrophysiology procedures are generally low-risk, and often, patients go home the same day. Planning for any medical procedure can be overwhelming, which is why SJPVH’s team of surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, therapists, and technicians are committed to high-quality, compassionate patient care in the safest environment possible. SJPVH’s cardiac catheterization lab delivers the latest in high-tech imaging, computer and diagnostic equipment, and surgical capabilities.
