St. John’s Regional Medical Center to Offer Free Pre-Diabetes and Diabetes Empowerment Education Program to Public

and arial,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;”>St. John’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC), a Dignity Health hospital, is pleased to offer a free Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) for individuals living with pre-diabetes and diabetes.

DEEP is a series of six free, two-hour classes tailored to provide community members with the tools to manage and live well with pre-diabetes and diabetes. The program, offered in English and Spanish will take place in Kate’s Landing Conference Rooms 1 and 2 at SJRMC (1600 N. Rose Ave. in Oxnard), from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the following Saturdays:

  • April 16   May 7
  • April 23   May 14
  • April 30   May 21

In these free classes, individuals will learn about:

  • Diabetes basics
  • Self-testing blood sugar
  • Meal planning
  • Stress management
  • Weight management
  • Increasing physical activity
  • Preventing complications
  • Improving relationship with health care team
  • Accessing community resources

DEEP is based on national diabetes care and diabetes self-management education recommendations and guidelines.
