St. John’s Stroke Program Recognized for Its Commitment to Stroke Care

St. John’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital (SJPVH), members of Dignity Health, are proud to announce they are each recipients of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s 2019 Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. SJRMC also earned a spot on the Target: Stroke Elite Honor Roll.

To receive the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Awards, hospitals must achieve 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke achievement indicators for a minimum of 12 consecutive months and achieve 75 percent or higher compliance to a group of quality measures. These ratios include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients.

“Every 40 seconds in the Unites States, someone suffers a stroke,” said St. John’s Medical Director of the Primary Stroke Center, Mani Nezhad, MD. “We are very proud of our primary certified stroke program and are honored to receive this national recognition, which highlights the superior level of stroke care we provide for our community members.”

Dignity Health St. John’s Hospitals are all designated Primary Stroke Centers, a distinction recognizing facilities that follow the best practices for stroke care. The facilities also provide integrated services in stroke diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.

These awards recognize the hospitals’ commitment and success to ensuring that stroke patients receive the most appropriate stroke treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
