The Fillmore Police Department will be hosting a program to educate newly licensed and future licensed drivers. Start Smart is a cooperative effort between the California Highway Patrol, Fillmore Police Department, teenage drivers, and their parents.
In an attempt to remain proactive and not reactive, the Start Smart Program is designed to help young drivers and their parents/guardians understand the responsibilities associated with driving a motor vehicle. Start Smart will show how a poor choice behind the wheel can change the lives of everyone involved. Our goal is to raise awareness and reduce the number of teen-related injuries and deaths due to collisions.
Interested parents are asked to call the Fillmore Police Department at 805-524-2233 or email [email protected] for more information and to make a reservation; space is limited. There is no charge to attend the program.
Due to Covid-19 health and safety guideline, this course will be offered online, via Microsoft Teams. Parents/child will have the ability to participate in the class from the safety of their homes and still be able to interact with the deputies presenting the course. This course will also be available in Spanish during the same allotted date/time as mentioned above.
The Fillmore Police Department would like to thank the Fillmore Unified School District and Fillmore High School administration for their assistance so that students may use school-issued laptops to attend the class. The funding for this program is being provided by a grant issued from the California’s Office of Traffic Safety (OTS).
El Departamento de Policía de Fillmore organizará un programa para educar a los conductores recién licenciados y los que tendrán licencia en el futura. “Start Smart” es un esfuerzo cooperativo entre el Departamento de California Highway Patrol, el Departamento de Policía de Fillmore, y los conductores adolescentes y sus padres/guardianes.
En un intento de permanecer proactivo y no reactivo, el programa “Start Smart” está diseñado para ayudar a los conductores jóvenes y sus padres / guardianes a comprender las responsabilidades asociadas con la conducción de un vehículo motorizado. “Start Smart” demostrara cómo una mala decisión detrás del volante puede cambiar la vida de todos los involucrados. Nuestro objetivo es crear conciencia y reducir la cantidad de heridas y muertes relacionadas con adolescentes debido a accidentes de tráfico.

Debido a las reglas de salud y seguridad del virus Covid-19, este curso se ofrecerá en internet, a través de “Microsoft Teams”. Los padres / adolescentes tendrán la posibilidad de participar en la clase desde la seguridad de sus hogares y aún podrán interactuar con los oficiales que presentan el curso. Este curso también estará disponible en español durante la misma fecha / hora asignada como se mencionó anteriormente.
El Departamento de Policía de Fillmore desea agradecer al Distrito Escolar Unificado de Fillmore y a la administración de la Escuela Preparatoria de Fillmore por su ayuda para que los estudiantes puedan usar computadoras portátiles proporcionadas por la escuela para asistir a la clase.
