By Tim Flynn
After 14 years of service to the people of Oxnard, I am deeply grateful to the voters who allowed me to serve in city government. I congratulate my friend Carmen Ramirez, who has earned a well-deserved victory and she will be a great County Supervisor.
Of my accomplishments, I am most proud of restoring honesty and integrity to Oxnard‘s finances and helping deliver 1,500 Amazon jobs. Thank you for believing in Oxnard

Editor’s notes: Oxnard Mayor Tim Flynn has served in city elected positions for 14 years. He ran for Ventura County District 5 Supervisor against 4 other opponents and was defeated in the 2020 general election by Oxnard Mayor ProTem Carmen Ramirez, a strong political ally and friend. His term is about to expire. This also means that the District 2 and Mayor Pro Tem slot will be open. Flynn will be replaced as Mayor by John Zaragoza, a former Councilman, who just termed out as District 5 County Supervisor. Supervisor Zaragoza ran for and won the mayoral election over Richard Linares and Planning Commission Chair Deirdre Frank. Mayor Flynn told us that he plans to return to teaching.

The comments stray far from the point of the article.
Mayor Tim Flynn graciously conceded his loss in his race for County Supervisor and congratulated the winner of that race, Mayor Pro Tem Carmen Ramirez. That is what a true leader does.
Too bad the last name isn’t Flynnriz or Flynnoga or maybe Flynncia. You would have been a shoe in.
Racist much?
Well, Tony Villar added his wife’s last name to his own (Villaraigoso) to sound more hispanic so people would vote for his useless ass for L.A. mayor. It must have worked, as the buffoon had two terms to make the city even worse than it was before.
I’m very surprised the moderator isn’t flagging the explicit racism in these comments. You should be ashamed of yourself, and that goes double for “Citizens Journal.” WWJD?
We saw three comments there.
– One comment suggested that the election was tilted by identity politics. Is it “racist” for someone to even mention that? No, that is stupid. Our own analysis was that far left political organization primarily won the race. Flynn had consistently won elections in a city which is only 14% white.
– The second comment claimed that the first comment was racist. Is it “racist” to observe that? You “woke” folks are really funny.
– As for the third comment about “Villa”, we don’t know what to think about it, but it almost worked for “Beto” in TX, right? “Antonio Ramón Villaraigosa (/ˌviːəraɪˈɡoʊsə/; né Villar Jr.; born January 23, 1953) is an American politician who was the 41st Mayor of Los Angeles, from 2005 to 2013.” So, we’ll leave that to the readers to decide.
Poor reasoning Mr. Woke. Looks like you’re the racist.
My comment was not racist. It was to merely point out how people will play the race card in order to get themselves into certain positions. While Villar is, in fact, of hispanic heritage, he felt that he needed to present himself as “more hispanic”.
How naive to think otherwise. I lived in Hawaii where people with Japanese sur names easily got elected because of their last names. It happens. It happens in Boston with Irish sur names. Are you naive much?
What is naive is voting for someone based on their last name (or heritage) and not on the issues. Still racist even if it happens. Glad we agree.
I don’t base my vote or support on race, gender, ethnicity, etc. I base it entirely on politics. If they have a “D” next to their name, they NEVER get my vote.
How sad that you don’t look at the person but rather if s/he has a ‘D’ next to their name.
