Strange armed robbery at McDonald’s Riverpark in Oxnard today

By George Miller

We were contacted by a reader who said she is the mother of one of the victims (a counter clerk) of a strange robbery at McDonald’s today. She related her son’s account of the situation. Their names will not be publicized. The alleged perpetrator supposedly arrived via Uber (an Internet taxi service using owner/contractor cars/drivers) and demanded five McMuffins and five hash-browns.

The following account was related to us by the aforementioned victim’s mother, which she said her son, who was working the counter at McDonald’s, described to her:

The clerk spotted the suspect when he first came into the restaurant.  The suspect seemed very keyed up, ill at ease, paced around and appeared to be talking on the phone. When the crowd thinned out, he walked up to the victim, pointed a black handgun at him and demanded five McMuffins and five hash-browns.

When asked why he was demanding food, he said he hadn’t eaten in five days. However, he was able to have a gun and engage an Uber driver.

The victim went to the back of the store and related the event to his mother over the phone. She came and picked him up and took him home. He is very upset at this point. He said he thought he was going to die and experienced his life flashing before him.

The manager of the store was able to get video of the getaway car. The driver of that car, who later said he was with Uber, noticed that his departure was being recorded, said he knew nothing about the robbery and later returned to find out why he was being recorded.  The suspect had given a phony address.  The Uber driver said the suspect jumped out of his car at an opportune moment.

We called Oxnard PD about 2 PM to exchange information and verify facts. Commander Miranda confirmed what he heard and also provided a description of the suspect, a black male in his 30’s, who is still at large. We were told that the police had made a report of this incident.
