Super Bowl LI – DUI Saturation & Traffic Enforcement Patrols – Oxnard

Oxnard Police Department – Incident Press Release

On February 5, 2017, the Oxnard Police Traffic Unit conducted citywide enhanced traffic enforcement and DUI enforcement saturation patrols.

The Traffic Unit conducted enhanced enforcement between 12:00pm and 5pm. During this time, officers conducted traffic enforcement stops and issued 85 citations. Two DUI drivers were arrested and one motorcyclist was arrested for exhibition of speed.

The Traffic Unit also conducted a DUI enforcement saturation from 1700 to 2200 hours. Thirty citations were issued and two additional DUI drivers were arrested. A total of seven vehicles were towed during both operations.

The Oxnard Police Department will continue to conduct DUI enforcement operations this year. These DUI operations are part of an effort to reduce the number of alcohol and drug-related crashes and to make our roadways and community safer. Impaired driving can be deadly. A driver is considered alcohol-impaired with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08% or higher, but even a small amount of alcohol can impair judgment and slow reaction times enough to make driving unsafe. Drugs such as many prescription medications, marijuana, or illicit drugs can also lead to impairment and unsafe driving leading to a DUI.  We remind people that if they see an impaired driver to dial 911. These DUI enforcement operations are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Transportation Administration.
