Super Tuesday 3 big winners are Clinton and Trump- 3-15-16
Kasich wins Ohio, Rubio drops out, Sanders shut out
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump continue to lead commandingly. Clinton was not slowed down that much by scandals nor Trump by his controversial words.
Republicans: Kasich had a big win in his “winner take all” home state of Ohio. However, Trump had a much bigger win of 99 delegates in the winner take-all prize of he night state of Florida. These are both key “swing states” for the general election, but it probably won’t help Kasich, since he likely cannot win in the primary at this point, nor even secure the 8 states with majorities required to be considered for the Republican primary under current rules, unless they somehow change them. In this case, the Ohio loss was not serious for Trump, because it didn’t go to his chief rival Cruz, who is falling farther behind and is nowhere near 8 states with majority wins.
Trump became the first Republican to qualify to be nominated when he won 8 races with a majority, in the Mariana Islands, of all places. Marco Rubio “suspended” his campaign when it became apparent that he would lose his home state of Florida badly. Trump is trying hard to amass a majority of delegates going into the convention for a first ballot win, but it is far from a slam dunk.
Democrats: Clinton is now way ahead of Sanders in state delegates, but Bernie is still racking up delegates. Unless something happens to take her out of the running, it is likely she will go into the Convention with a commanding lead and win on the first ballot.
Previously Sanders won Maine and Michigan on March 6, while Clinton won Mississippi on March 8.
