The Guys in Blue Surprise SoCal’s Most Helpful Teachers with Over $25,000 of Much Needed Supplies
Parents aren’t the only ones who spend big getting ready for the school year. Teachers, as it turns out, spend over $500 of their own money each year for school supplies, according to a survey by Scholastic.*
Teachers go above and beyond to enrich their students’ education and inspire them in all aspects of their lives. They motivate students to set high goals, increase knowledge, and even be a good friend. Teachers are essential role models who shouldn’t have to bear the responsibility of paying for classroom supplies. The SoCal Honda Dealers recognize this and the importance of providing the necessary resources for teachers to help their students succeed, so they’re here to help.
To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, May 7th – 11th, 2018, the SoCal Honda Dealers and the Helpful Honda Guys in Blue are once again honoring the efforts ofdeserving local school teachers who double as role models for their students, and make education an unforgettable and meaningful experience both inside and outside of the classroom.
With the help of an “inside” school official, the Helpful Honda Guys will surprise one amazing teacher each day over Teacher Appreciation Week!. Teachers will be surprised with a Random Acts of Helpfulness from the SoCal Honda Dealers at local schools in Hacienda Heights, Tustin, Corona, Simi Valley and Pomona. Based on each teacher’s unique strengths and academic efforts, they will be presented with a wish-list of much needed technology, learning materials, a helpful class makeover, and even a surprise field-trip, in an effort to help further their high-impact work inside, and outside of the classroom.

Honoring Jill Robles of Berylwood Elementary (4th Grade)

- Her story:Jill Robles is a devoted educator who motivates her students to grow not only within her classroom, but to work on building their character as well. She places an emphasis on kindness in her lessons, generously dedicating her time, energy, and money to provide her students with an exceptional educational experience. She is widely known among her students by her two favorite precepts: “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind,” and, “Students don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”
While volunteering as a Junior Olympics coach for Berylwood, Mrs. Robles realized that the students participating could not afford tennis shoes, so she and a fellow colleague worked together to acquire a grant to provide these students with new shoes so they would have a fair chance at competing. Mrs. Robles continuously puts her students top of mind, living out exactly what she teaches.
As a Title 1 school, Berylwood Elementary has low-income students who are in need of basic supplies like notebooks and pencils. Helpful Honda will be surprising Mrs. Robles with furniture for a more flexible seating arrangement, as well as other materials that will enhance the students’ educational experience in the classroom.
WHY: Celebrating teachers who make a difference is one of many ways the SoCal Honda Dealers are giving back to communities across Southern California and continuing their commitment to helpfulness, now for the 11th consecutive year. So far, the Guys in Blue have: helped over 550 adoptable pets find forever homes at the Helpful Honda Pet Adoptions, surprised thousands of residents with complimentary roses on Valentine’s Day; and during Mother’s Day weekend, are surprising moms with the Helpful Honda Pop-Up spa and treating them to complimentary massages and manicures!
The SoCal Honda Dealers bring Random Acts of Helpfulness to local communities throughout the year in many different ways — from picking up litter in neighborhood park; carrying and loading groceries for shoppers; handing out water on hot days; surprising sports fans at Dodgers and Angels games with seat upgrades and souvenirs; and spreading helpfulness to families at the LA Zoo and Six Flags Magic Mountain. Why? Because it’s their job to be helpful.
