Survey: 94% of Small Business Owners Oppose Prop. 15

NFIB members nearly unanimous in wanting to keep their property tax protections

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 15, 2020—Results from a survey of its California small business members released today by NFIB showed 94 percent of them opposed to Proposition 15, the November ballot initiative that would radically alter the Proposition 13 property tax protections enacted 40 years ago.

“Our survey demonstrates overwhelming opposition to Prop 15 by the thousands of small and independent business owners, our state’s number one job creators,” said John Kabateck, state director for NFIB California. “Like our small-business owners, once voters understand the devastating impact Prop 15 will have on California’s small businesses, who are the foundation of their neighborhoods, they will vote no. We will continue to make our voices heard to voters up until Election Day. Small businesses across California are united against Prop 15.”

Small businesses have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and will be facing soaring rents and property taxes unless voters reject Prop 15.

In a sampling of its 15,000 members in the state, NFIB found just four percent expressing support for Prop. 15.

Pernicious in nature, Prop 15 is just a first step to uncontrolled taxation. If you think it won’t happen to those living in single family dwellings, you must be a democrat.
