Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release
On April 29, 2021, detectives assigned to the Sheriff’s Gang Unit contacted and arrested a local gang member for possession of narcotics and a stolen firearm that was loaded.
In early April, Gang Unit detectives received information that local gang member Joseph Guinn was in possession of an unlawfully obtained firearm. Guinn’s criminal history prohibits him from owning and or possessing any firearms or ammunition. Detectives also found Guinn was on active probation in Ventura County and had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.
Detectives conducted surveillance in the 1000 Block of Seaward Avenue in Ventura. They contacted Guinn and arrested him for the outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants. Guinn also had a small amount of methamphetamine in his possession.
Following Guinn’s arrest, detectives conducted a probation search of a nearby hotel room associated to him. During the search, detectives found a loaded firearm concealed in the bedroom. A records query of the firearm’s serial number revealed it had been stolen from a vehicle burglary in the City of Ventura.
Guinn was booked at the PTDF for the warrants, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, and possession of methamphetamine.
