Suspect arrested with 1/8 ounce of meth after crashing bicycle into patrol car

On Saturday October 1st at 9:29 PM a VPD patrol officer observed a bicyclist in the 800 block of E Front St wearing a Halloween type mask and riding a bike with no lighting equipment as required during nighttime hours.
The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on this bicyclist who refused to stop and attempted to flee. As this subject rode away he collided with another patrol unit and continued into an adjacent guardrail.
The subject was thrown from his bike and his mask was knocked off. The officers’ approached and recognized him as 34 year old vagrant Matthew Schumacher who has numerous police contacts and is currently on probation for narcotic related offenses.
Schumacher got up and attempted to run away but was quickly apprehended by the officers and taken into custody. During a search of his person Schumacher was found to be in possession of approximately 1/8 ounce of suspected methamphetamine.
The patrol unit that was struck by Schumacher’s bike sustained minor damage. Schumacher was transported to VCMC for treatment of a minor injury and later transported to the Ventura County Main jail where he was booked on the charges of resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
