Suspect rams Port Hueneme Police Cruiser with Stolen Vehicle

Port Hueneme Police Department Incident Release

On February 5, 2021, at approximately 5:45 PM Port Hueneme Police Officers were in the area of Ocean View Drive when they observed a stolen vehicle backing out of a parking stall at Hueneme Beach Parking Lot B. The first responding unit attempted to enter the parking lot to stop the vehicle before it could back out. The suspects quickly observed the police unit and accelerated at a high rate of speed directly toward the police unit. As the first police unit approached, the driver of the stolen vehicle made an immediate evasive movement, drove around the police unit on the wrong side of the road and accelerated towards the intersection of Surfside Drive. The second black and white police unit was preparing to turn onto Ocean View Drive from Surfside Drive at which time the suspect vehicle intentionally rammed the police unit on the driver’s side. This incapacitated both vehicles. Two suspects fled from the damaged vehicle and a lengthy foot pursuit ensued.  During the foot pursuit the driver identified as Alvaro Hernandez (19-year-old Port Hueneme resident) jumped a fence and forced entry into a residence. With the help of some very observant Port Hueneme residents, officers located Hernandez hiding inside and took him into custody. The second suspect (a minor) was located a short distance away and also taken into custody. As a result of the traffic collision, the officer was injured and will be seeking medical treatment.

Hernandez is currently on probation for 459 PC, Burglary and was charged with the following:

10851(a) CVC Unlawful Taking Or Driving Of A Vehicle 245(c) PC Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer 459 PC Burglary

368(b)(1) PC Elder Abuse 273a(a) Child Abuse 148(a)(1) PC Resisting Arrest

Hernandez was transported to the Ventura County Jail and his bail amount is set at $105,000.
