THOUSAND OAKS—“Recapturing Education from our Government Schools: Public vs. Private Education” was the power-point message delivered by Robert E. Lee at the Thousand Oaks Tea Party Thursday. (Editor’s Note: The Thousand Oaks Tea Party meets at Godspeak Calvary on the second and third Thursdays of the month.)
“Neither the academic nor moral climate in the U.S. public schools are anything like it was when we, the parents or grandparents of the current students, were growing up and were in public school.
“Instead of being educated with the proper tools necessary to become future leaders and citizens of America, they are being taught an anti-truth, an anti-American, anti-Moral system.”
According to Dr. Lee (UC Berkeley graduate who has worked in the semi-conductor industry of Silicon Valley and the aerospace industry in Southern California), the decline of America is traced to public school’s teaching of humanism. “A fundamental change in education took effect in the early 60’s. The federal government stepped in. Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson lobbied Congress for increased federal aid to education, leading to the creation of the Great Society and Head Start.
“Their efforts were opposed by conservative politicians and community leaders, particularly those who believed that education policy was strictly a state and local issue—as per Tenth Amendment.”
U.S. historian David Barton in reviewing indicators of the 60s-90s show that as state testing scores went down eight percent during this time: living together went up by 636 percent; violent crime up by 566 percent; sexual transmitted diseases of 15-19 year-olds increased by 342 percent; single parent households by 272 percent; divorce rate by 236 percent; unwed mothers between 15-19 by 233 percent; and alcohol consumption by 137 percent.
Meanwhile, the Program for International Students Assessment (PISA) administered by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) which has 37 member countries (an economic and world trade organization began in 1961) shows in 2018 (out of 540,000 students representing 29 million 15-year-old students from 72 participating nations) that the U.S. math scores ranked 31st while the University of California Irvine released a national study in 2015 showing that California ranked 42nd nationwide.
According to Dr. Lee (chemistry and STEM teacher and leader of Godspeak Calvary’s Creation Science mInistry), “Humanism now dominates our public schools,” and is played out through:
- Revisionist History “emphasizing the negatives about America”
- Socialism with the mantra of “free everything” and “tax the rich”
- Child Psychology educators “proclaim they are the experts and will handle all your children’s emotional needs”
- Androgyny: the “feminization of our boys” and the “masculinization of our girls”
- Acceptance, not just tolerance, advocates “no absolute truth”
- Misguided Environmentalism: “Mother Earth is worshipped in public schools” and
- Evolutionism at the expense of Creation.
“The California Department of Public Education has just issued (May 2019) guidelines for sex education…and this time there is no opt out…including gender identity and sexual orientation.”
Included in the California recommended health books are two books written by Robie Harris and Michael Emberley entitled: “Its Perfectly Normal” (for 10 years up) and “It’s Not the Stork!” (four years and up) that is highly graphic. According to Dr. Lee, the recommendations for high school students include: demonstrations of the use of condoms, bondage discussion and other “abnormal” sexual practices.
Joining Dr. Lee at the Tea Party meeting were Christian school director Laurie Gourley of Living Oaks Middle School Academic Alliance (LOMSAA, a Christian middle school located at 1033 Business Center Circle in Newbury Park) and Christian homeschool Classical Conversations educator Rebecca Harrington. Dr. Lee and Laurie Gourley are slated to speak at the Aug. 10th “Christian Alternatives to Public Schools” seminar from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Godspeak Calvary, 320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park as well as Jessica Sherk from Classical Conversations.
Other Aug. 10th speakers include: Mike Dunn (former CVUSD board president); Dr. Karen Winter (head of Hillcrest Christian School, located at 384 Erbes Road, Thousand Oaks); as well as speakers representing CASA and Trinity, two Christian home school organizations.
