The Case for Christ” and “Facing Darkness” released at local theaters

By Michael Hernandez

Two Christian movies are being released this Easter Season:  “The Case for Christ” (starting Thursday, April 6th) and “Facing Darkness” (only on Monday, April 10th at 7 p.m.) will be shown at The Century Riverpark 16 theater, 2766 Seaglass Way (at The Collection) and other movie houses throughout Southern California.

“The Case for Christ” is a story about Chicago Tribune legal editor Lee Strobel (Mike Vogel), an atheist who sets out to disprove his wife, Leslie’s (Erika Christensen) faith in Christ.  The movie also stars Faye Dunaway (as Dr. Roberta Waters) and Robert Forester (as Walter Strobel).

The 112-minute film released by Pure Flix Entertainment is directed by Jon Gunn with screenplay by Brian Bird and is based on a true story that inspired the 1998 book of the same name by Lee Strobel.

Franklin Graham’s Samaritan Purse (Graham is Executive Producer) limited release (one showing only on Monday, April 10th at 7 p.m.) of  “Facing Darkness” is a 93-minute documentary of the true story of two ebola stricken  missionaries in West Africa who race against time to get treated back in America.

“Facing Darkness” was shot in Liberia and the U.S. where the events took place and highlights the lives of true heroes who risked their lives in an effort to stop one of the deadliest epidemics of this century.  Ebola infected more than 28,000 people in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, and 11,000 died of the disease.

“Hundreds were dying and it was only growing worse,” said Franklin Graham.  “When the disease struck Dr. Kent Brantly and hygienist Nancy Writebol, we knew we had to get them home for treatment.  It was their only chance, yet it was something no one had ever done.”
