The City Of Ventura Invites The Community To Participate In The Redistricting Process

Ventura, Calif. – Every ten years, City Council Districts are redrawn so that each district is substantially equal in population using the U.S. Census data. This process, called redistricting, ensures that each City Council member represents about the same number of constituents. In the City of Ventura, the public may create new maps for City Council consideration using the 2020 U.S. Census data.

Redistricting determines which neighborhoods and communities are grouped into a district for purposes of electing a council member. Residents can provide input with the city on how they think district boundaries should be drawn to best represent your community. For participation details, visit www.cityofventura.ca.gov/redistricting

The city will share updates on our social media sites and website regularly. Public hearings will be conducted in English and Spanish when residents submit a request in advance for live translation.  The next Public hearing is scheduled for October 18, 2021. Please see  www.cityofventura.ca.gov/redistricting for all relevant information about the redistricting process.

    How can I get involved?

The City of Ventura will hold a Public Hearing to receive public input on where district lines should be drawn and to provide instructions on how to use the drawing tools on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 6:10 p.m.  With the Council Chambers currently closed for Public Meetings, the Adult Center will be used for our Public Hearing on October 18, 2021, as a location for the “live” Spanish Translation. Contact the City Clerk for details. If any resident requires “live” Spanish translation, notify the City Clerk by October 14, 2021, by emailing: [email protected]

The schedule for all hearings is posted at www.cityofventura.ca.gov/redistricting

For a complete list of key dates, administrative reports, mapping tools and frequently asked questions, visit www.cityofventura.ca.gov/redistricting The City’s website features Google Translate in the bottom right-hand corner of every page; pdf documents can be uploaded to Google Translate for Spanish and other languages.
