The First College Football Coaches Poll of the Year is Here | Find Out Where Your Team Ranks

David Hookstead | Reporter

The first college football coaches poll of the year was released Thursday, and Alabama is sitting pretty at the top.

Check out the top 25 below:

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Ohio State
  4. Georgia
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Washington
  7. Wisconsin
  8. Miami
  9. Penn State
  10. Auburn
  11. Notre Dame
  12. Michigan State
  13. Stanford
  14. Michigan
  15. USC
  16. TCU
  17. Virginia Tech
  18. Missisippi State
  19. Florida State
  20. West Virginia
  21. Texas
  22. Boise State
  23. UCF
  24. LSU
  25. Oklahoma State

Well, I can’t say I’m too surprised here. The top 10 are pretty much exactly what I expected. I would love to have known where Ohio State would be if Urban Meyer wasn’t placed on administrative leave yesterday. Of course, it’s impossible to know when all the ballots were already in. (RELATED: THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL WORLD SHOULD FEAR WISCONSIN FOR ONE SIMPLE REASON)

It’s a great showing for the Big Ten and the SEC at the top. Both conferences put a trio of teams in the top 10, and I don’t think anybody is too surprised Alabama is at the top. I’d be shocked if they weren’t.

However, I think there’s a bit of disrespect here for Wisconsin. Only ranked seventh? Seems a shade low. Am I terribly upset? No, but I think a spot or two higher would have been more appropriate.

At the end of the day, I guess we all just have to wait and see how our teams do. I’m not worried. Wisconsin will do what we always do. We’ll see what the doubters have to say at the end of the year.
