Setting Brushfires of Freedom by Don Jans

The Honk Wave is Coming to an End May 30th

    To Our Channel Islands Neighbors,

When the Honk and Wave began it was our goal to continue with it until the county opened up retail and restaurants. It was also our goal to bring some type of normalcy to our friends and neighbors, put a smile on their faces, and to let them know they were not alone. Based on the public comments during the cruises and on social media it has been a hit within our community. Many of our residents looked forward to seeing us, as it has been the closest thing to normal in their lives.

Now that Ventura County is allowing retailers and restaurants to open both goals have been reached. It is a consensus among the originators that it is time to bring it to an end. We would like to end on high note. What we have decided is to continue through May 30th figuring it will take a week or so for businesses to open up.

This Saturday is Memorial Day weekend. Lets celebrate! We would like to see those watching from shore get outside and partake by waving flags, holding signs and/or making noise as we go by! We encourage our fellow boaters to participate and to display the American Flag in tribute to those that we have lost. If you can, please stay with us throughout our cruise! The last few weeks we’ve started strong but lost approximately 70% prior to completing the route.

On Saturday, May 30th, we encourage any boater that wishes to cruise with us to do so and to please finish the route so that all of our harbor neighbors can participate in their own way as we cruise by on our final run. We will make every attempt to cruise every channel that has room for us! If you have seen us before, you will see us this time as well!

If you are a spectator, we would LOVE to hear and see you! Wave! Display flags and banners! Honk, toot, or whistle horns, bells or whatever! Make some noise! Remember we are all in this together and we are winning!

    Lastly –

Please mark on your calendar that the 5th Annual July 4th Electric Boat Parade is happening! A little birdie me told that this time they would cruise Mandalay Bay, Seabridge, Westport and Harbor Island on a similar route that we have been doing. The

July 4th parade will begin at 4pm in the open area between Vons and Seabridge. Please contact ”the little Birdie”, Frank Laza at Central Coast Electric Boats if interested.
