The Paintings of Sherry Loehr at the Santa Paula Art Museum

there arial,sans-serif;”>The Santa Paula Art Museum is pleased to present “Nature Inspired: The Paintings of Sherry Loehr,” opening Saturday, February 6, 2016. The exhibition features a stunning array of paintings by award-winning Ojai artist Sherry Loehr. Inspired by nature, Loehr’s work explores a world guided by imagination and intuition, and brought to life through her signature improvisation with color and texture. The exhibition will premiere with a reception on Saturday, February 6, 2016, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Admission is $10.00 for museum members and $15.00 for the general public.

Sherry Loehr defines her style as contemporary realism with an Asian flavor. Largely self-taught, Sherry portrays her subjects – notably birds, flowers, fruits, and plants – with an incredibly disciplined, Old Masters approach to still life. It is her use of bold color and imaginative backgrounds that lends her work a contemporary feel. The tranquility of Loehr’s compositions reflects her admiration for the simplicity of traditional Asian art and culture.

“The experience of viewing Loehr’s work is perhaps best described as a meditation,” says Museum Executive Director Jennifer Heighton. In looking one gains a moment of peace, and a sense of awe. But the true magic of Sherry Loehr’s art is found in the contemplation of where reality ends and imagination begins. “Nature Inspired: The Paintings of Sherry Loehr” runs through June 12, 2016.

The Santa Paula Art Museum is located at 117 North 10th Street in downtown Santa Paula. The Museum’s regular hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sundays from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Regular admission is $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors, and is free for museum members and students.
