unhealthy times;”>Under clear skies and a bright full moon, participants of the 5th Annual Ventura Winter Wine Walk sipped and danced through more than 60 wine tasting locations Bloody Curealong Main Street in downtown Ventura.

The sold out event was even bigger than the previous four years, with more than 500 early holiday revealers eating, drinking and shopping at the merchant’s tables that were set up in the center of the street.

On a huge stage in the center of town, British Beats kicked off the Wine Walk, playing a variety of Beatles tunes. They were followed by The Midnight Band with The Bomb closing out the party.

Reckless LoveThe wine line started at the W. Gallery – Erle Stanley Gardner (yes, THAT Erle Stanley Gardner, the creator of Perry Mason) building where they were pouring “The Bloody Cure”, a spicy concoction that was sure to cure just about anything when mixed in a Bloody Mary or Micheladas!

For the adventurous, Trystology featured “Reckless Love” from Rebel Coast Winery in a “glow in the dark” bottle. And what goes better with reckless love, but a delicious pinot and beautiful jewelry from A.K. Fine Jewelry, or chocolate pearl earnings at Fox Fine Jewelers, who kept their shoes ON while pouring selections from Barefoot Wine and Bubbly.

Wine and beer were flowing freely from one end of the walk to the other, with a few restaurants like Tipps Thai handing out samples of their Opolomenu to the hungry crowd as they strolled by. With so many wine stations, the lines were relatively short and the pouring relatively fast. Some locations only had a few participants so there was time to chat a bit with the host about the wines they were pouring.

The only criticism of the event was that the walk itself wasn’t very well defined. Although everyone received a tasting location map, once the sun went down, it was very difficult to read. But it was a minor problem since one only needed to follow the crowd from one location to the next. Parking was also a bit difficult to find, but no one seemed to mind walking an extra block or two.

The Ventura Winter Wine Walk was billed as “The Social Event of the Year!” and it certainly lived up to its name!
