Thomas Fire Officially Declared Over

The Thomas Fire broke out December 4th 2017 in Santa Paula.  It grew to become California’s largest wildfire, taking two lives and burning through over 440 square miles in addition to destroying over 1000 structures.

The fire continued burning in the rough terrain of the Los Padres Fire after tearing through Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.  Now, after two months, with no hotspots it was officially declared over.  However that was not before claiming 21 more lives, from five one family including a baby, after a freak downpour in Montecito where hillsides stripped of vegetation let loose destructive mud-flows.
