Thousand Oaks | Arrest made for Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds

Ventura County Sheriff – Incident Press Release

On May 4th, 2021, Thousand Oaks Police Department School Resource Officers began an investigation of a male juvenile who recently brought a handgun to a school in Thousand Oaks. It was reported the juvenile suspect displayed the handgun to students who believed the handgun was real. School Resource Officers learned the juvenile suspect attended school in Thousand Oaks but resided in the Los Angeles area. Additionally, the juvenile suspect was not present at school the date this was reported and had not been attending school regularly.

School Resource Officers quickly investigated and learned the location of the juvenile suspect. A review of the juvenile suspect’s social media accounts also showed evidence the juvenile had access to a firearm. On May 6th, a search warrant was served at the home of the juvenile suspect. During the search, a BB gun was seized which was similar in description to the handgun the juvenile allegedly brought to school. The juvenile received a citation for 626.10(a)(1) PC, unlawfully possessing a weapon on school grounds and will be contacted by Ventura County Probation. Probation will work with the District Attorney’s Office, the minor’s attorney and a Ventura County Judge to determine the most appropriate action or resources to be provided or required for the minor.
