I know these “commissions” may serve as stepping stones toward City Council seats. To be on a commission you need to go through some form of an interview. If you are chosen for a committee or commission it is because you fit the mold for the existing council members mindset.
They serve as a nursery for creating stepford city governments. If you really want to change city government, becoming part of it might not be the best way to achieve your goals.
