Tower 2 Tower Oxnard event- spectacular!- Results included
By George Miller
A tough athletic event was held Saturday in Oxnard, put on by the Oxnard Fire Explorers and receipts used for charity. It involved racing up and down the stairs of the two tallest buildings in the city and mastering an optional obstacle course between the two buildings. It proved that young people have the best lung capacity for that, but some older folks were also contenders. Incredibly, some fireman did the race in full firefighters’ gear! Firefighters, police and military entrants showed up, along with the general public. Most competitors appeared to be female. Official race results (below) from Active Running & Sports showed 438 event finishers.
Participants and spectators enjoyed the after-race activities in the parking lot including on-site fire trucks, police, K9’s, Search & Rescue and Hazmat teams. Military and sports equipment vendors also displayed their wares. Live Music and food were available.
50 Floors, 1,089 Steps, 500 Feet of Elevation—This is the Stair Climb for You!
Start by running up then back down the stairs, in the 14-story City National Bank tower. Head out and cross the parking lot through a series of obstacles (obstacles are optional). This course will lead you to the larger Morgan Stanley tower. Enter the North stairs then race up 22 flights. Water will be available every seven floors and on the rooftop. Exit to the roof, cross the finish line, then take a moment to enjoy the spectacular view and to revel in your run.

After a memorable photo, check your time, then head down by elevator to the lobby. Times will be posted, in the Winners’ Circle, after the event. Only those who complete both stair climbs and obstacle course will be eligible for prizes.
Post race, join your family and friends at the Public Safety Day. Demos will be ongoing from Fire and Police Departments, K9’s and other public safety teams from the county. Enjoy a live band, music and food with the entire family. Don’t forget to stop by and say hello to our sponsors at their booths!
