Trump Sends Fiery Letter to Pelosi, Accuses Democrats of ‘Illegal, Partisan Attempted Coup’

    BY JACK PHILLIPS

President Donald Trump sent a 6-page letter (pdf) to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday to protest the impending vote on two articles of impeachment and accused Democrats of “subverting” Democracy.

The president told Pelosi that he wishes to express “my strongest and most powerful protest against the partisan impeachment crusade.”

“You have developed a full-fledged case of what many in the media call Trump Derangement Syndrome and sadly, you will never get over it!” Trump wrote. “More due process was afforded to those accused in the Salem Witch Trials,” he continued.

Trump went a step further and accused Democrats of interfering in elections, subverting its Democracy, obstructing justice and bringing suffering to the country.

“Any member of Congress who votes in support of impeachment—against every shred of truth, fact, evidence, and legal principle—is showing how deeply they revile the voters and how they truly detest America’s Constitutional order,” he wrote.

House Democrats in the Judiciary Committee passed two articles of impeachment that will be sent to the House floor on Wednesday. They charged that Trump abused his power and obstructed Congress, alleging that the president withheld $400 million to Ukraine in exchange for politically advantageous investigations—claims that Trump and Ukrainian officials have denied.

Some vulnerable Democrats had been holding out on impeaching Trump, but they ultimately confirmed in recent days that they would join their caucus, meaning that Democrats appear to have just enough votes—or 216—to impeach. The House requires a simple majority, and the Senate requires 67 out of 100 votes.

The White House letter highlighted the pending elections.

“I have no doubt the American people will hold you and the Democrats fully responsible in the upcoming 2020 election,” Trump wrote to Pelosi. “They will not soon forgive your perversion of justice and abuse of power.”

Later on in the letter, Trump accused Democrats of a “partisan attempted coup” that is targeting not only him, but the entire GOP.

“This impeachment represents an unprecedented and unconstitutional abuse of power by Democrat Lawmakers, unequaled in nearly two and a half centuries of American legislative history,” the president wrote in the missive.

Democrats have also argued impeachment is a necessity because Trump has continued his alleged misconduct and is endangering the integrity of the 2020 election. Republicans have defended Trump and accused Democrats of a partisan effort to undo the 2016 election result.

Trump and other Republicans have alleged the Bidens were involved in corruption in Ukraine as his son, Hunter Biden, sat on the board of a Ukrainian gas company, Burisma Holdings, which has long been accused of graft. Both Bidens have denied wrongdoing.
