Two documented Oxnard gang members arrested in separate incidents
pill arial,sans-serif;”>For stolen vehicle and parole violation: On September 3, 2015, at approximately 4pm, officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit were involved in a vehicle pursuit involving a stolen vehicle. At the termination point of the pursuit the suspect fled and officers were unable to locate the male suspect.
Further investigation identified the driver as Federico Zapien. Zapien is a documented gang member and on parole.
On September 5, 2015 at approximately 1740 hours, SEU officers observed Zapien in another vehicle and were involved in second pursuit of Zapien. Due to Zapien’s erratic driving, the officers cancelled the pursuit.
At approximately 10:45pm, SEU officers were able to locate Zapien at a residence in the 1800 block of South “F” Street. Zapien was taken into custody without further incident.
Zapien was arrested for charges related to the pursuits, driving a stolen vehicle and violation of parole.
For possession of loaded firearm: On September 5, 2015 at approximately 7pm, officers from the Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit were conducting gang enforcement in the downtown area of the city. SEU officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Sixth St and “B” St. Immediately upon the vehicle stopping a subject who had been hiding in the rear seat attempted to flee the area. He was detained a short distance away and identified as Albert Salazar. Salazar is a documented gang member and had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. During a search of the vehicle a loaded semi-automatic handgun was located.
Salazar was arrested for several firearm related charges, violation of the gang injunction and his outstanding warrants.
The driver of the vehicle, Mariah Arroyo was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The adult female was released.
The Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit is committed to reducing gang crimes and violence in the City of Oxnard through the strict enforcement of laws specifically targeting known, active gang members residing in the city. Citizens are reminded to contact the Police Department when they observe suspicious activity or are witnesses to a crime.
