Two Prominent Endorsements for Starr for Oxnard Mayor

Press Release

This is a little long, so please bear with me as I share with you endorsement letters from two very prominent people: Former Ventura County District Attorney Michael Bradbury and Civil Rights Activist Lupe Anguiano.

Former District Attorney Michael Bradbury:

To the citizens of Oxnard,

I am pleased to lend my name and support to Mr. Starr and his campaign for Mayor of the city of Oxnard. I have had the pleasure of spending time with Mr. Starr and his wife, Alicia. We have discussed and debated several issues affecting the future of the city and I am convinced he is the best person to have at the helm as the city faces several major challenges in the coming years. I have found him to be bright, focused and a quick study. He has a solid understanding of the workings of city government, is forward in his thinking and creative in seeking solutions to the city’s problems. Most importantly, he is a person of character who shares Ventura County’s values. He cares deeply about his community, understands its people and shares their differing concerns.

Although I am a resident of the Ojai area, the safety and security of the County and each of its cities have been and remain important to me since I have been honored to serve all of our citizens as the county’s chief law enforcement officer for almost 33 years. One of the most important factors in my decision to support Aaron, however, is that he has the strength and courage of his convictions and beliefs. In other words, he has put his money where his mouth is, and it has always been in the best interests of the people of Oxnard. He has not hesitated to take action, often at his own expense, to do the right and necessary thing for the city and its citizens. I know he will continue to put you, the people, first if you decide to elect him your mayor. For all the foregoing reasons and more, I respectfully recommend you vote for Aaron Starr for Mayor on November 6, 2018.

Civil Rights Activist Lupe Anguiano:

Dear Oxnard residents,

I am supporting Aaron Starr for Oxnard Mayor.

I know Aaron Starr and have observed the sacrifices he and his wife Alicia have made in support of Oxnard’s diverse population.

Aaron’s experience as a Certified Public Accountant and financial controller of a billion-dollar Oxnard company is just what we need today to address City Hall’s ongoing financial and managerial challenges.

Oxnard’s people are proud, productive and have the capability to achieve any goal we set our mind to.

Aaron’s vision includes bringing companies offering higher paying jobs to Oxnard so that our children and grandchildren can afford to live here. He understands that uplifting people through rewarding work will enrich our lives and that the tax revenues generated by these companies will better enable City Hall to serve all of us with vital services.

Aaron possesses broad knowledge on a variety of subjects, ranging from public policy to technology, and he envisions a future where pollution is a distant memory, people live in peace and justice is the norm.

But Aaron also recognizes that no one person has all the answers and that better decisions come from collaborating with others. He will work with the City Manager and City Council to bring us the future we aspire to achieve together as a community.

Aaron is refusing any compensation as Mayor – he says it’s not public service, unless one is volunteering to serve. He is not seeking higher office, he simply wants to help Oxnard reach its potential.

Few people have actually sat down with Aaron and come to understand him the way I have. I’m here to tell you that I believe in Aaron and that our community needs him.

Please vote for Aaron Starr for Oxnard Mayor. His contribution to our city would be a blessing for us.

Two endorsers with very different backgrounds.

Both share traits I admire: thoughtfulness, compassion, intellectual rigor and a sense of duty to advance the human condition.  If I should be so honored as to become your mayor, I will aspire to emulate those traits and seek to bring Oxnard together.

My commitment to you will be to listen, understand and then act in ways intended to enhance and secure the lives of our entire community, while still respecting and protecting the rights of each individual.

I’m excited about Oxnard’s prospects and I hope you are, too.

If you believe Oxnard needs new leadership, say “YES!”

Let’s make this happen!

P.S. While incumbents typically win re-election, overcoming their advantage is doable … but only if you vote for change! Say “YES” to a better future by casting your vote-by-mail today or at your polling place on November 6.
