Unmanned MQ-4C Triton Crashes at Naval Base Ventura

On Sept. 12 at approximately 2:45 pm, an MQ-4C Triton assigned to Unmanned Patrol Squadron (VUP) 19 experienced an inflight mechanical issue during a test flight. As a precautionary measure, the pilots shut down the engine and attempted to safely land the aircraft on the runway at Naval Base Ventura County in Point Mugu, CA.

The aircraft’s landing gear did not deploy and the aircraft landed on the runway with its landing gear retracted.

There were no injuries reported. The mishap is currently under investigation.
